Monaco prince says he was tricked into paternity

PARIS (AFP) — Prince Albert II of Monaco said he was tricked into fatherhood by the woman with whom he had a five-year relationship, who said earlier this year that she became pregnant after forgetting to take the contraceptive pill.

"Yes, I think I was set up," Albert, who officially became ruler of his tiny Mediterranean state in July, told the New York Times on Saturday.

Albert, a 47-year-old bachelor, recognized in July the son he had with a former Air France flight attendant, Nicole Coste, who gave details of the long-rumored relationship to the French celebrity magazine Paris Match.

The child, Alexandre, was born in 2003. His mother, who comes from the West African state of Togo, has two children from a previous marriage.
