Danes to send sperm to alleviate feared British shortage

COPENHAGEN (AFP) — A large Danish sperm bank said that it had been asked to provide sperm for fertility treatments on ships in international waters outside Britain, which could face a sperm shortage next year.

"We have been contacted by foreign doctors who have asked us to deliver sperm to ships in international waters ... near Britain," said Ole Schou, head of Danish Cryos, one of the world's largest sperm banks.

The appeal comes as Britain prepares to ban anonymous donations of sperm, eggs and embryos, something some fear could lead to longer waiting times for fertility treatment in the country.
