Stars and personalities gather for Hurricane Katrina performance

NEW YORK (AFP) — A constellation of music stars, along with a some big-name personalities, gathered at two of New York's best known auditoriums to perform with Louisiana musicians to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Singers Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John and Bette Midler joined personalities like former president Bill Clinton and actors like Paul Newman at two events that ran simultaneously at Madison Square Garden and at Radio City Music Hall.

The event was dubbed "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy" -- a play on the nicknames of both cities.

Musicians Lenny Kravitz and Ry Cooder played blues tunes to a packed Madison Square Garden audience along with Louisiana musician Buckwheat Zydeco, while pop-rocker Cyndi Lauper sang with the New Orleans trio...
