O'Grady leaves Cofidis for Ferretti's new team

MADRID (AFP) — Cofidis sprinter Stuart O'Grady has left the French cycling outfit for a new team being assembled by Italian manager Giancarlo Ferretti.

O'Grady, who has spent the past two years with Cofidis, winning a stage on the Tour de France, the Hamburg Cyclassics World Cup event and two stages of the Dauphine Libere, is to take Aussie teammate Matt White with him.

O'Grady, currently in Australia, told AFP he had signed a two-year deal with Ferretti's new outfit for next season.

"We signed the contracts yesterday, and I'm pretty excited. I've only got a few years left as a bike rider, so it's going to be a fresh challenge for me," O'Grady told AFP by phone on Thursday.
