BERLIN (AFP) — Schering said that its menopause treatment Angeliq had finally been approved for launch in the United States.
"The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Angeliq to treat moderate to severe menopausal symptoms," Schering said in a statement.
While the drug is already available in Europe, the US authorities previously had blocked its use in the world's biggest pharmaceuticals market after a study underlined the risks of cardiovascular problems and breast cancer associated with that type of drug.
Schering now expected to launch Angeliq in the US by mid-2006, it said.
The German company estimates the drug has annual sales potential of 250 million euros (300 million dollars).
