Six killed in Bangladesh flash floods

DHAKA (AFP) — Flash floods caused by monsoon rains in northwestern Bangladesh killed at least eight people and forced thousands of people to take refuge in temporary shelters, reports said.

Around 30 villages were inundated and hundreds of thatched houses collapsed during incessant monsoon rains over the past five days, a report by the official BSS news agency said.

Four people were electrocuted, two died when a wall collapsed, and two children drowned, the English-language Daily Star said.

More than 1,000 families had taken refuge in temporary shelters set up in government buildings, the BSS report added.
