Schering stops testing of new uterus drug

BERLIN (AFP) — German drug maker Schering said that it had stopped testing of its new drug Asoprisnil, a treatment for uterine fibroids, after some patients had experienced adverse side-effects in late-stage clinical trials.

The announcement depressed shares in Schering as it raised questions over the launch of yet another key project in the company's drug pipeline, following the recent setbacks suffered by its Bonefos bone cancer and PTK colon cancer treatments.

Schering had already been forced to set back submission of its application for launch of Asoprisnil in Europe and the United States from this year to next year.
