KISUMU, Kenya (AFP) — At least three people, including a school boy, were shot dead and dozens wounded in western Kenya as security forces tackled a riot over the country's bitterly disputed proposed constitution.
Riot police opened fire on the disturbance in Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria while dispersing hundreds of youths who had attempted to stop a rally by four cabinet ministers who support the draft, police and medical sources said Saturday.
"We received two casualties already dead, among them an eight-year-old-school boy," said Juliana Otieno, the medical supritendant of Kisumu's Nyanza Provincial Hospital.
"Another patient in his teens died in our hospital while undergoing treatment for gunshot wounds," she added.
