Israel, Palestinians in talks with EU on Gaza border

TEL AVIV (AFP) — An EU envoy held talks with Israeli and Palestinian officials on plans for EU representatives to oversee the reopening of the Gaza-Egypt border as Israel gave its approval for Egypt to supply ammunition to Palestinian police.
As the Israeli and European negotiating teams met for the first time, a senior official said Israel hoped to be able to finalise an agreement within a fortnight.
"We hope to reach an agreement in the next two weeks which will allow the Rafah terminal to be permanently reopened," he told told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Last week, the Israeli security cabinet approved a decision to reopen the terminal under Egyptian and Palestinian control, with European observers monitoring the crossing and real-time surveillance by Israeli cameras.
