NTT DoCoMo ties up with Tower Records Japan

TOKYO (AFP) — Japan's top mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo announced a tie-up with Tower Records Japan to allow subscribers to use access music news and use e-money services in its stores.

Under the alliance NTT DoCoMo will take a 42 percent stake in Tower Records Japan for about 12.8 billion yen (108.7 million dollars).

It aims to make the music retailer, which has more than 100 outlets in Japan, the "model retailer" for DoCoMo's wallet phones, which allow subscribers to make payments with their handset instead of using cash.

DoCoMo customers will also be able to access music information on artists and special offers at stores of Tower Records Japan, which was established in 1979 as part of the US music retail giant but now operates independently.
