Deane parts ways with Perth Glory

SYDNEY (AFP) — Former England international Brian Deane will leave Perth Glory because of ongoing injury problems, the Australian A-League club said in a statement.

The announcement brings to an end Deane's seven-match stint in Australia's fledgling football league, during which the striker scored only one goal.

Deane, 37, said he decided to head home to England after a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

"I am already playing catch-up because of this injury in some ways so that is a personal setback," he said Tuesday.

"Part of me has also been thinking that, from the club's point of view, it would be better to leave a space open to bring someone in to strengthen the squad for the future.
