DORTMUND, Germany (AFP) — Argentina's 1986 World Cup winning hero Diego Maradona was depicted as a mercenary in the German media after snubbing Sunday's testimonial match for former Brazil star Julio Cesar.

The 44-year-old Maradona initially claimed he would be delighted turn out at Borussia Dortmund's Westfalen Stadium for Cesar but then demanded a 200,000 dollar match fee.

The demand fell on deaf ears and Maradona did not jet into Dortmund.

"Maradona no longer has a place in my heart," said a disappointed Cesar.

Cesar, 42, won Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 1995 and 1996 before lifting the Champions League in 1997.

The Brazilian defender finished his career at Rio Branco, Sao Paulo in 2001.
