WASHINGTON (AFP) — US hotel group Host Marriott said it was buying 38 establishments in the United States and overseas from its rival Starwood in a deal worth about four billion dollars.

Starwood said the deal includes hotels under the Sheraton, W, Westin, St. Regis and Luxury Collection brands.

Most of the Starwood hotels being sold are in the United States with six in Europe, three in Canada and others in Fiji and Chile. The Marriott group will now have 145 luxury hotels under 17 brands in 50 countries.

Host Marriott, an investment trust that controls the Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt, Four Seasons, Fairmont, Hilton and Westin chains, said it plans to change its name upon the deal's closure to Host Hotels and Resorts.
