Rice to visit Europe amid concern over CIA prisons

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her deputy Robert Zoellick will visit Germany in the next 10 days to meet new German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the State Department announced.

The top US diplomat's tour of Europe also will include visits to Romania, Ukraine and Belgium from December 5 to December 9, he said.

Rice will arrive in Europe as concern mounts about reports that the CIA has been operating secret prisons in eastern Europe and transporting suspected Islamic extremists through the region on secret flights.
