US embassy in Malaysia remains shut after security scare

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — The United States embassy in the Malaysian capital remained closed, after being shut down last week in a security scare over suspicions it was under surveillance.
"We are still closed today," embassy spokeswoman Kathryn Taylor told AFP.
The embassy was shut on Friday following "recent suspected surveillance incidents," she said, adding it was "still working with Malaysian law enforcement to resolve the issue" but declining to give further details.
"We hope to reopen as soon as possible," she added.
City police chief Mustafa Abdullah said on the weekend that an embassy staff member had reported seeing several foreign men, including one carrying a camera, loitering outside the mission on Thursday.
