MADRID (AFP) — Barcelona sharpshooter Samuel Eto'o will join up with Cameroon for the African Nations Cup on January 16 after Barca coach Frank Rijkaard cleared his availability, the club said.
Participating teams had to submit their squad list by January 10, ten days before the tournament begins, to the Confederation of African Football and Cameroon were keen to ensure he is on board for the official FIFA-sanctioned event in Egypt.
Barca have Swedish veteran Henrik Larsson on standby to replace Eto'o, as well as Argentine Maxi Lopez as they face up to at least two and possibly three league games after he abandoned any idea of travelling back to Spain between internationals.
He could also miss several Spanish Cup encounters.
