J.K. Rowling to go to Romania to help underprivileged children

BUCHAREST (AFP) — J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, will take part in a charity benefit in Bucharest next week to help "the underprivileged children of Romania and Europe," organisers of the event said.

Rowling, who is British, will attend a fund-raising dinner next Wednesday with celebrities, including former Romanian gymnastics champion Nadia Comaneci.

Ten signed copies of her most recent book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," will be auctioned off during the evening.

The former special rapporteur on Romania to the European Parliament, Baroness Emma Nicholson de Winterbourne, extended the invitation to Rowling.
