ThyssenKrupp says it will buy Dofasco if Mittal acquires Arcelor

DUESSELDORF, Germany (AFP) — German heavy industry giant ThyssenKrupp has said it will buy Canadian steel-maker Dofasco after all, if Dutch giant Mittal Steel acquired Luxembourg-based rival Arcelor.
ThyssenKrupp lost out earlier this week to Arcelor in a fierce takeover battle for Dofasco.
But Mittal Steel launched an 18.6-billion-euro (22.7-billion-dollar) bid for Arcelor on Friday.
And ThyssenKrupp said it had signed an agreement with Mittal under which it would be given the opportunity to buy Dofasco in the event of a takeover of Arcelor by Mittal.
