D'Alessandro on loan to Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH (AFP) — Argentina international midfielder Andres D'Alessandro has joined Portsmouth on loan from German Bundesliga strugglers VfL Wolfsburg until the end of the season, the English club confirmed.

The playmaker is Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp's ninth signing of the January transfer window and is the most exciting arrival since Alexandre Gaydamak became co-owner of the club in early January.

"The boy is a really influential playmaker and you can't have too many of those," Redknapp said. "This is a massive signing at the club for sure."

Portsmouth are currently second from bottom of the Premiership and engaged in a desperate battle to avoid relegation.
