Mittal confident in bid for Arcelor

BRUSSELS (AFP) — Mittal Steel chief executive Lakshmi Mittal voiced confidence that his group would prevail in its takeover bid for European steelmaker Arcelor.
"We are very confident that we will succeed," he told journalists as he brought his charm offensive to Brussels in an attempt to win EU support for the controversial takeover.
Mittal is increasingly fighting a public relations battle on top of a high-stakes corporate takeover as politicians and unions in countries where Arcelor has big operations line up to attack the deal.
"Comments of the politicians are coming because we have not shown them yet our industrial plan," Mittal said.
