Blues holding on to Bruce

BIRMINGHAM, England (AFP) — Birmingham chairman David Gold has insisted that they are determined to hold on to manager Steve Bruce despite reports linking him to the vacant Newcastle job.
Bruce, who 18 months ago rejected the chance to become manager of Newcastle, is seen as a possible candidate after Graeme Souness lost his job.
But after turning down the job in August 2004 Bruce signed a new five-year deal at St Andrews, and Gold is keen to retain Bruce's services.
"It is all speculation but you can't avoid that happening. But we always have and always will do everything to keep Steve Bruce at Birmingham City," said Gold.
"You could never say `Not under any circumstances' but we are supporting Steve and we are sure he will support the football club...
