SCOTTSDALE, United States (AFP) — JB Holmes made his first PGA Tour victory a convincing one as he fired a final-round 66 to win the FBR Open by seven strokes.

Holmes finished the 5.2 million-dollar tournament with a 21-under total of 263, with Steve Lowery, Colombian Camilo Villegas, Scott Verplank, Ryan Palmer and JJ Henry.

Holmes, who turned pro last year, and earned his tour card for this season by earning medalist honors at the tour qualifying school, won 936,000 dollars.

Holmes had a one-stroke lead going into the final round and fended off a challenge by Ryan Palmer, who managed to pull into a tie several times before Holmes pulled away over the final nine holes.
