Swedes knock mighty USA out of Olympics

TURIN, Italy (AFP) — Former champions United States were sensationally knocked out of the Olympic Games women's ice hockey tournament with a 3-2 shootout loss to Sweden.

The Swedes, who will face either defending champions Canada or Finland for the gold medal, came back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 in regulation time.

Goaltender Kim Martin was the hero for the Swedes, stopping four American penalty shots while Pernilla Winberg and Maria Rooth scored. Rooth also scored both goals in regulation for Sweden.

"It's wonderful," Swedish forward Kristina Lundberg said. "We had a dream about it and the dream has come true. I can't find the words."
