Beaten US vow to bounce back from skeleton scandals

CESANA PARIOL, Italy (AFP) — The scandalized US skeleton team vowed to bounce back from its recent sex and drug turmoil after losing both its men's and women's Olympic titles and ending the Games without a medal.

Eric Bernotas was more than a second off the pace on Friday while Chris Soule, a late call-up for the banned Zach Lund, finished the men's competition third from last.

"It's sport, things happen. Other federations have gotten through the same turmoil and the best we can do is stand on our own two feet and deal with it," said Jim Shea, the 2002 gold medallist who was not competing here.

"The greats always fall down a lot but they always get back up."
