Roma captain Totti upbeat after surgery

ROME (AFP) — Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said he was surprised by the cheery mood of striker Francesco Totti after the Italian international striker underwent major surgery on his badly-injured left leg.
The 29-year-old Roma captain was operated on late Sunday as surgeons realigned the left ankle ligaments that had been ripped away from the broken fibula that he suffered in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Empoli.
The fibula runs parallel with the tibia and runs from the knee down to the ankle. It is the smaller of the two bones but is not weight-bearing.
Ten screws were inserted into the fibula to stabilise the bone.
