NEW DELHI (AFP) — The White House defended US President George W. Bush's handling of Hurricane Katrina after video footage surfaced of him being warned of potential devastation from the killer storm.

Bush has previously said he was not pleased by the government response to the storm, but has also suggested that Washington did not have a clear picture of just how bad the situation would get, especially in New Orleans.

With critics noting that the president did not ask a single question at an August 28 briefing and insisted that "we are fully prepared," the White House fired back that he was heavily involved in preparations.
