ISLAMABAD (AFP) — US President George W. Bush is to hold talks with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, at which he will push his key ally for more progress on the "war on terror" and on democracy.

Unprecedented security turned Islamabad into a virtual ghost town ahead of Bush's arrival late Friday for the third and final leg of his South Asian tour, following a three-day stay in India and a surprise trip to Afghanistan.

Islamic hardliners led a nationwide strike and angry protests were staged shortly before Bush and his wife Laura touched down, while a suicide car bombing on Thursday killed a US diplomat in the southern city of Karachi.
