Puckett in critical condition after stroke

FT. MYERS, United States (AFP) — Baseball Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett, who led the Minnesota Twins to two World Series titles, was in critical condition after undergoing surgery in the wake of a stroke.

Puckett, a 10-time All-Star center fielder for the Twins, suffered the stroke Sunday morning at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, the team said.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Puckett had bleeding on the brain and surgery was required to drain blood and relieve pressure.

Perhaps the most popular player in franchise history, Puckett played his entire career with the Twins (1984-95).
