Belgian firm Agfa Gevaert posts 2005 loss due to bankrupt photo unit

BRUSSELS (AFP) — Belgian imaging technology company Agfa Gevaert reported a net loss last year of 19 million euros (23 million dollars) because of the bankruptcy of its AgfaPhoto unit.
However, the result marked an improvement from the loss of 143 million euros that the group posted for 2004.
The company, which makes graphics and healthcare imaging technology, blamed the loss last year on a 55-million-euro provision for the liquidation of AgfaPhoto.
For the group, sales fell 12.1 percent last year to 3.308 billion euros from 3.762 billion euros in 2004 while earnings before interest taxes, depreciation and amortisation fell 15.4 percent to 405 million euros from 479 million euros in 2004.
