MEXICO CITY, March 11, 2006 (AFP) — Swedish superstar Annika Sorenstam carded a pedestrian one-under-par 71 but grabs a share of the lead after the second round of the 1.2 million dollars MasterCard Classic.
The world's best female player made her 2006 debut in smashing style, firing a bogey-free 5-under-par 67 on Friday.
On Saturday, Sorenstam carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 but did not manage another until the 16th. Sorenstam also had consecutive birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 and is at 6-under 138.
"I thought I played quite well today. I got off to a really good start," Sorenstam said.
"There were some things in the middle. I just couldn't put a good score together, but I played really, really well."
