Suez calls on French stock regulator seek clarification from Enel

PARIS (AFP) — The chairman of French utility company Suez has called on the French stock market regulator to ask Italian electricity group Enel to make public its intentions regarding a possible takeover bid for Suez, according to a letter obtained by AFP.

Chairman Gerard Mestrallet said he wanted Enel to "make its intentions clear publicly and unambiguously," adding that "statements from Enel and market rumors are leading to speculation on the shareprice" of Suez.

Suez shares since February 20 have risen more than 15 percent and closed at 34.37 euros on Thursday.

Mestrallet said "a press campaign" suggesting an imminent bid by Enel for Suez "reflects a communication strategy organized by Enel."
