Terror planners considered Moussaoui 'not right in the head'

ALEXANDRIA, United States (AFP) — Leading Islamic militants had doubts about the stability of Zacarias Moussaoui and denied he was a key Al-Qaeda player in testimony aired at his death penalty trial, a day after his claim of a major role in the September 11 attacks.

Defence lawyers used testimony from Indonesian militant Hambali and Al-Qaeda facilitator Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawasawi to try to knock down suggestions that Moussaoui was a key plotter.

"Hambali described Moussaoui as very troubled, not right in the head and having a bad character," said a summary of interrogations of the key leader in the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) extremist network in Indonesia.
