BANGKOK (AFP) — Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said he was ready to consider proposals for national reconciliation as provisional results showed half of Bangkok had cast protest votes against him.

"I am ready to accept any proposals on how to achieve national reconciliation," Thaksin told reporters as he arrived at his party headquarters for a meeting.

"I don't want to make any comment about the strong 'no vote' in Bangkok. I already knew that was going to happen," he said.

Thaksin said he had not yet decided on his next move, but said he would give a television interview later Monday.
