Barkley, Wilkins, Dumars named to Basketball Hall of Fame

INDIANAPOLIS, United States (AFP) — Dominique Wilkins, known for his acrobatic dunks in a National Basketball Association career that included nine All-Star appearances, has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
After getting snubbed last year, the France-born Wilkins was among the 2006 honorees announced on Monday by the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
Joining Wilkins, who was nicknamed "The Human Highlight Film," are fellow former NBA stars Charles Barkley and Joe Dumars.
Big East Conference founder David Gavitt, University of Connecticut women's coach Geno Auriemma and Italian national team coach Sandro Gamba were also elected.
Barkley, Gavitt and Auriemma were elected in their first year of eligibility.
Wilkins did not get elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility last April despite his status as the NBA's ninth all-time leading scorer with 26,668 points.
