FA chiefs to see England shortlist

LONDON (AFP) — Senior English football officials are set to be presented with a shortlist of candidates to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson as the national team coach when the Football Association (FA) board meets on Wednesday.

It is understood the nominations panel have now reduced the list of candidates to take over from the Swede, who bows out at the forthcoming World Cup finals in Germany starting in June, to three or four names.

Among those set to be included are former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill and Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren, currently Eriksson's England assistant.

The nominations group - made up of chief executive Brian Barwick, international committee chairman Noel White, Premier League chairman Dave Richards and FA board member David Dein, the Arsenal vice-chairman - have chosen the shortlist.
