Murray given extra time to prove fitness

GLASGOW (AFP) — Andy Murray has until Thursday to prove his fitness for Great Britain's Davis Cup tie against Serbia and Montenegro in Glasgow this weekend.

The 18-year-old British number one has been suffering from fever and swollen glands but was nevertheless able to practise on Wednesday.

If the Scot is ruled out, Great Britain coach Jeremy Bates would have to select between former US Open finalist Greg Rusedski, Arvind Parmar, who has yet to win a Davis Cup singles match, and debutant James Auckland for the Euro-Africa Zone tie over three days starting here Friday at the Braehead Arena.

Earlier Wednesday, former British number one Tim Henman told Murray to put his health before his country.

Henman played against Thailand in 2002 despite carrying a shoulder problem - a decision that temporarily stalled his career - and the 31-year-old does not want Murray to experience ...
