Pompey set to offer Redknapp new deal

PORTSMOUTH, England (AFP) — Premiership strugglers Portsmouth are on the verge of offering manager Harry Redknapp a new contract, regardless of whether they stay in the top-flight or are relegated.

Milan Mandaric and Alexandre Gaydamak, the south coast team's co-owners, are ready to discuss a new deal for the 59-year-old Redknapp who, according to chairman Mandaric, is also considered by his young billionaire partner as the right man for the job.

Franco-Russian businessman Gaydamak made a 15 million pounds investment in Portsmouth back in January and Redknapp made several purchases during that month's transfer window.

But Gaydamak, 30, could have been forgiven for wondering if he'd spent his money wisely as the Fratton Park club continued to find league...
