Allardyce cops heavy fine for Riley outburst

LONDON (AFP) — England target Sam Allardyce has been fined 2,000 pounds (3,750 dollars), severely censured and warned about his future conduct by the Football Association following an outburst against referee Mike Riley.

Bolton manager Allardyce, in the running to be the next England manager when Swede Sven Goran Eriksson steps down after the 2006 World Cup, accused Riley of nearly starting a riot immediately after Bolton's match at Blackburn on January 14.

Big Sam, as he is known in football circles, pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct relating to the game.

Some fans tried to jump over a fence after Bolton midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata was sent off in the 0-0 draw at Ewood Park.
