PARIS (AFP) — Lyon quickly overcame their Champions League hangover, beating Nice 2-1 at home to move within a single victory of wrapping up their fifth French league title in a row.
Second-place Bordeaux's lacklustre 0-0 draw at home to hapless St Etienne helped the league leaders open up a 14-point gap at the top with just five matches remaining.
Bordeaux have to win every remaining match and Lyon lose their last five for the title's destination to change.
"I think the title is won," said Lyon boss Gerard Houllier. "We can become champions in front of our television sets next weekend."
The former Liverpool manager was not impressed with his team's performance but was nonetheless delighted to win.
