Bonds goes 0-for-4 after being hit in batting practice

WASHINGTON (AFP) — San Francisco Giants star Barry Bonds, two home runs shy of matching Babe Ruth for second on the all-time Major League Baseball list, gained no ground with an 0-for-4 showing here.

The Giants defeated Milwaukee 2-0 after Bonds, the controversial outfielder whose run at history has been marked by doping accusations he steafastly denies, was struck by a ball during pre-game batting practice.

Bonds was struck by a foul ball while near the portable fence surrounding the batting area. He fell to the ground on his back and was helped to the locker room before returning to take his turn at batting practice.

Bonds started fourth in the Giants lineup but failed to gain ground on Ruth, remaining on 712 career homers to 714 for Ruth while Hank Aaron...
