Czech star Jagr to undergo shoulder surgery Monday

WASHINGTON (AFP) — New York Rangers right wing Jaromir Jagr of the Czech Republic will undergo surgery Monday to repair his dislocated left shoulder, the National Hockey League team announced.

Jagr suffered the injury in the third period of the first game of the Rangers' first-round playoff series against New Jersey when he lunged to check Alaskan-born Scott Gomez, the NHL's first Hispanic-heritage player.

After missing game two, Jagr struggled in game three and took another hit in the shoulder in game four to end his season as the Devils ousted the Rangers in their first trip to the NHL playoffs since 1997 in a four-game sweep.
