Wales name Jones as skipper for Pumas challenge

CARDIFF (AFP) — Ospreys prop Duncan Jones will lead a young Wales squad to Argentina for next month's two-Test tour, the Wales Rugby Union revealed.

New head coach Gareth Jenkins has also selected five uncapped players in his 28-man squad: locks Ian Evans and Alun Wyn Jones, hooker Richard Hibbard, flyhalf James Hook and Dragons prop Rhys Thomas.

Jenkins turned to Jones because Toulouse fullback Gareth Thomas is still recovering from the "mini stroke" he suffered during the Six Nations championship earlier this year.

Number eight Michael Owen, who took over from Thomas, has been rested for the tour, helping to bring down the average age of the squad to just over 24.
