Bono guest-edits newspaper with Africa message

LONDON (AFP) — Irish rock star Bono added journalism to his CV with a turn as guest editor of the newspaper The Independent which he dedicated to combating AIDS and the poverty it inflicts in Africa.

"No News Today" ran his front-page headline on a red background, but with a small line of print at the bottom reading "Just 6,500 Africans died today as a result of a preventable, treatable disease."

The poster-style front page was designed by artist Damien Hirst.

Stories about Africa dominated the inside pages, tackling the impact of AIDS, climate change, EU farm subsidies and even mobile phones on a continent largely neglected in the Western news media.

Two pages were given over to a profile of Nigeria's corruption-fighting female finance minister...
