Race begins to find single tyre supplier

PARIS (AFP) — The race is on to find a single tyre manufacturer to fit out all Formula One cars from the 2008 grand prix season.
Motor racing's governing body the FIA on Monday opened the tender process which will end the duopoly enjoyed by Michelin and Bridgestone.
"Bids must be submitted by the deadline of June 23, 2006," the FIA announced on its official website.
French company Michelin are supplying tyres to six teams this season - Renault, McLaren, Honda, Red Bull, BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso - with their Japanese rivals fitting out Ferrari, Williams, Toyota, Midland and Super Aguri.
FIA president Max Mosley said the change to one supplier would be beneficial for both teams teams and the sport.
