Hamas cabinet minister questioned in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AFP) — A Hamas cabinet minister and two MPs from the ruling Palestinian faction were questioned by Israeli police in Jerusalem, police and the Islamist movement said.

Jerusalem affairs minister Khaled Abu Arafeh, and deputies Mohammed Abu Teir and Ahmed Attun were questioned on suspicion of organising a demonstration on the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, an Israeli police spokesman said.

Abu Arafeh, who was the first to be released, was handed a police order banning him from visiting the mosque compound for two weeks, one of his collaborators told AFP.

Police also banned him from attending a gathering on Friday organised by the Islamic movement at an ancient Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem where plans to build an Israeli museum of tolerance has created a...
