Greenpeace protesters dump soya at Cargill offices in Britain

LONDON (AFP) — Greenpeace activists dumped piles of soya at the US firm Cargill's offices outside London to protest against the crop being grown on parts of the Amazon rainforest that had been illegally deforested.

"This morning we dumped four tonnes of soya outside the European headquarters of Cargill in Cobham, west of London," a spokesman for the environmental group said Monday.

The agribusiness group was forced to open a second entrance to allow employees to enter its offices after one protester "chained herself to the main gate and blocked access to the building", the spokesman added.

"Our militant removed herself voluntarily and was arrested by the police," he said.

"We have met with Cargill. They agreed to consider a proposal for a moratorium...
