Hutchison joins Vietnamese firm for 655 million dollar investment

HANOI (AFP) — Hutchison Telecom has signed a deal with a Hanoi-based firm to launch a third generation (3G) mobile phone network with total investment of 655 million dollars over 15 years.

An announcement in the Vietnam News said Hutchison and Hanoi Telecommunications joint-stock company would "build, develop and operate a cellular mobile communication network and value-added services using CDMA2000 technology, 800 MHz band over the entire territory of Vietnam."

An official from the Vietnamese company confirmed the statement without elaborating.

Data transmission, Internet access and wireless services are also included in the services, according to Wednesday's announcement.
