Banished NFL rusher Williams inks deal to play in Canada

TORONTO (AFP) — Ricky Williams, suspended for 2006 by the National Football League for a fourth violation of the league's substance abuse policy, signed with Canadian football's Toronto Argonauts.

The Miami Dolphins gave permission for the controversial running back to sign a deal, reportedly worth 240,000 dollars, that will allow him to play this year after all, albeit in a league seen as a notch below its US counterpart.

Williams, who previously tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug, inked a one-year deal on the opening day of training camp. The eight-team league begins its season June 16.
