DETROIT, United States (AFP) — The New York Yankees placed All-Star outfielder Gary Sheffield on the disabled list with a torn ligament and dislocated tendon in his left wrist.

The 37-year-old Sheffield, whose move to the 15-day DL is retroactive to Tuesday, originally suffered the injury April 29 in a collision on the basepath with Toronto's Shea Hillenbrand.

Sheffield went on the disabled list on May 9 and missed 16 games before returning on May 23.
