New York conducts follow-up study of health effects of 9/11 attacks

NEW YORK (AFP) — New York City is conducting a follow-up study of the impact of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the health of residents, rescue workers and others in the vicinity of the World Trade Center.

Some 71,000 people are being called on by the city health service to participate in a second survey begun on Thursday aimed at measuring the impact of the destruction of the World Trade Center's twin towers in the Al-Qaeda terrorist attack.

The 71,000 already participated in an earlier survey in 2003-2004, and of them about 8,000 complained of significant health problems, both respiratory and psychological.
